CNC Grinder Operators / Setters

Primary Responsibility:

Responsible for operating CNC Cylindrical Grinding machine shop equipment. May also occasionally be involved with assembly work, all with minimal supervision. The work is designed to ensure the accuracy, efficiency, and operations undertaken on a timely, tidy, and safe manner.

Main Duties & Tasks:

• Operations – will supply a limited variety of machines with component parts. Will operate start/stop procedures, and maintain a vigilant check/inspection of finished parts. Maintains production output reports and batch cards, etc.
• Quality – will use test and calibration gauges to determine standard of components in production, and will report immediately any deviances. Intermediate awareness to broader range of inspection techniques, including understanding of SPC.
• Maintenance – assists with basic machine tool maintenance requirements.
• Health & Safety – follows laid down health & safety procedures, and complies with requirements to meet obligations by wearing the prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE), at all times.
• Ensures that machine guides functioning at all times, when in production, and signs off to this effect.
• Housekeeping – takes those steps necessary to maintain a clean and tidy workplace, including removing waste from work area and cleaning machine tools, etc. etc.
• will undertake training such as is required by production operators’ skilled matrix programme

Qualifications & Skills:

• Reasonably good basic level of education, especially maths, English, and preferably a science subject.
• Some evidence of a practical aptitude, and hand/eye co-ordination.
• Minimum NVQ level 1/2 in engineering based competencies.

Experience:

Previous CNC Grinding experience, preferably on Toyoda or Mikrosa machines is essential.
Be aware of relationship between different Company departments, and their impact on production, e.g. production control, stores, and inspection, etc.etc.
A reasonable understanding of engineering drawings, inspection procedures, and measurement tools and techniques.
Appreciation of team role, in a machining, mass production environment
